APPROACHING A BIBLICAL PASSAGE OR NARRATIVE
- Listen to it offered in the best possible way. (if alone, experience yourself speaking it aloud)
- Try to give it a new name (apart from the familiar one)
- Try to say how it affects me (no matter what the effect)
- Try to say what word, phrase, or other aspect struck me.
- Indicate the images that occur (e.g. Tree, birth, saliva, robe, stairway etc.)
- What other biblical images/ characters come to me in this moment.
- What situations in my life am I reminded of.
- Which character in the passage do I empathise with (or not)
- What strength or other resource am I being offered.
- Make up a short prayer that links it with my life.
- Will I be able to relate the story etc. Later (e.g. In the family)
- Silently (or aloud) thank the one who presented the story.
